Mostly, I am asked this question because someone is contemplating if God can forgive him or her. They consider the evil they have done in their life, and wonder if there is any reason to even try and ask for forgiveness. Yes. God can forgive anything.
“For I am convinced that neither death or life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” -Romans 8:38-39
Do you see? NOTHING can separate you from the love of God. Even if Satan himself came out of the depths of hell and laid claims to your soul, God would not let that separate us from Him. God loves you. God created everything, even satan; so why would He create something that could come between us? There is no sin that you could commit that is bigger than God’s ability to forgive.
There are no limits to how far God will go to reclaim you, redeem you and restore you! There is nothing you can do that God cannot forgive. But THERE is the restriction. You must ask for forgiveness. You must truly be sorry and desire restoration for this to happen. Remember, we have free will. God will not make you want Him. However, the second you want Him, He will be there, and NOTHING is going to get in His way.
It’s like sitting at a table in a restaurant. If you just sit there, you will get nothing more than a few glasses of water. The second you realize that you can’t survive on water, and order some food, the chef can now prepare for you the feast he has been waiting to unleash. You have to realize you need it, want it, and ask for it, and it’s yours! (And the best part is that Jesus has already paid the bill!)
Here is where we find the problem with Satan being forgiven. For someone to partake in God’s forgiveness they must want to be forgiven. They must desire to be redeemed. Redemption is a personality trait of God. Satan is separated from God. Hell by definition is the absence of God. So satan does not even have it in him to want to be redeemed. He resides in a place that is eternally separated from even the idea of redemption.
So, yes, God could forgive satan, but because of satan’s position and heart, he will never ask for it, or even think he needs it.
So how about you? Are you in a place where you realize you need God’s forgiveness? Because there is a huge God waiting to unleash His love, mercy, grace and forgiveness to you. A feast of epic proportions has been prepared for you on behalf of the guest of honor Jesus. He has paid for everything, and is just waiting for you.
Ask for it.
It is yours.
There is more room at the table. Perhaps you know someone who could use a great meal of forgiveness?
